Admiral Class
Our topic this Summer half-term is focused on ‘Me and my Local Community.’ We will incorporate PSHE, literacy, community visits and technology to explore what a community is, what a community includes, and how we as individuals fit into our local environment. We will begin by exploring what a community is and gathering a basis of our knowledge of what might be included within a community. Each week we will be researching a different part of the community from roles/ jobs and how different people work together to make a community. We hope to embed this knowledge through community visits to explore each role in more depth.
Admiral Class will be cycling every Thursday this term. We will be building on our fitness levels each week and extending the number of laps that we are able to complete. We will also be learning why we need to wear a helmet and the importance of being safe when using the equipment and being aware of other users.
During Literacy, Admiral Class will be completing a Phonics lesson each week, linked to sounds and letters at our targeted levels. This half-term we will start reading a new class book. We will vote from a selection and the book with most votes will be the class book for this half-term. We will also be completing handwriting sessions and story writing to improve our pencil control. We will be continuing to work towards our individual Phonic level. Our literacy sessions will also provide a link to our topic. We will be continuing to reflect on our week in reflection, also incorporating our ICT skills by selecting a photo and transferring it to a word document.
During maths, we will be continuing to work from the White Rose Scheme. This half-term some learners will be continuing with length and perimeter. Within this unit we will be learning about measure in metres, centimetres and millimetres. We will also be looking at equivalent lengths (metres and centimetres, centimetres and millimetres) comparing lengths using these different measurements.
Within Science, we will be focussing on Physics, looking into friction. We will be carrying out science experiments to discover what can move across different types of surfaces depending on what it is made from and its textures. We will be carrying out investigations by using magnets to discover items that are magnetic and items that are not.
The theme of our PE sessions this half-term will be looking at pulling the skills we have learnt in other terms to explore playing different team games. We will be starting to play volleyball and learning the rules of the game.
In Jigsaw we are learning about relationships and how people have different relationships. Some of the units that we are covering are qualities of healthier relationships, changing supportive relationships and getting on and falling out.
Finally, in cooking we will be creating a range of summer inspired dishes that relate to fruit and improving our fine motor skills.
