Our topic for the second half of our Summer Term is ‘All Aboard’. The children will have the opportunity to participate in attention circles and games linked to the topic. Our book focusses will be ‘That’s Not my Car’, ‘The Train Ride’ and ‘That’s Not my Plane’. The children will learn new topical vocabulary, which will include the appropriate Makaton signs.

Our Science topic is ‘look all around’. The children will be encouraged to explore the world around them and go for walks to see what they can see. They will investigate different weather and look at the clothes we wear at different times of the year.

In English we will focus on our chosen stories. We will read the books regularly and use the story sacks with props to tell the story. The children will go to the library once a week to look at the books and enjoy listening to different stories. We will be encouraging the children to look at the pictures and we will talk about what we can see. In Phonics, one group will be playing listening games, and the other group will be focussing on the individual sounds - n, m, d, g, o, c.

In Maths, the children will be in 2 groups. One group will be focussing on number rhymes and participating in attention circles related to the numbers 1 - 5 whilst the other group will be focussing on prepositions and the numbers 4 and 5. They will participate in activities and listen to stories that mention prepositions and learn about the numbers 4 and 5. 

The children will be producing more masterpieces this term. They will be making different modes of transport using a variety of colours, textures and resources. Caterpillar Class really enjoy our cooking sessions, and we look forward to continuing this. They will be decorating biscuits, making fruit cars and boat crackers. 

We will continue swimming. The children have been really enjoying themselves, and it has been lovely seeing their confidence grow in the pool. They are splashing and beginning to relax in the water. We will continue to enjoy trips out in the local community to the library, play parks and supermarkets. We will also be going on a whole day trip to Fisher’s Farm (more information to follow).

It’s going to be a lovely half term.
